Social Networking without Ads?
As marketers, we see the value of ads, but we certainly understand that too much advertising would drive people away from social networks like Facebook. Each network has to find a balance between profitability and the user experience.
There’s an article on the subject entitled, Can an ad-free, subscription-based social network exist? Here’s an excerpt:
“Facebook knows that keeping users on its site helps ad revenue, hence the constant changes to its algorithm. In fact, it’s willing to curtail the amount of news and branded content if it means keeping user engagement high.”
